World We Dare to Imagine #3: InReach

My goal is to create an organization that effectuates the change I want to see in the world. When thinking about how, the first step in my approach was to identify a big problem that we as a global society face related to helping those in need. I reasoned that one of the main reasons people don’t feel inclined to devote energy or resources toward those in need is due to the lack of a sense of personal connection. Surely someone with a sense of connection to another person, no matter the physical or cultural distance, is more inclined to sympathize and help.

To address the lack of global sympathy, I am proposing an organization to develop and run a social media platform called “InReach” that would document, congregate and propagate originally created personal stories of those in need. In the same way that social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram took viewership from traditional film and television companies, the platform could reduce the need for middlemen in philanthropic organizations by providing funding and aid directly to those in need.

I’ve realized that my generation has become increasingly dependent on social media as its predominant source of information and communication. Most of the media that we consume is designed to quickly grab attention and get the user to interact with the content. The companies that have mastered this like Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok have unprecedented influence on those that use their platforms daily. If there were an app for originally-created and quickly absorbable content made by people in underrepresented groups, we could bring attention to people who need help the most.

Anima Mundi should support the organization primarily because of the idea’s potential global reach and positive social impact. With the help of an investor like AMDP, the organization would have the resources needed to create the necessary software and scale to the point where the platform gains global traction. With experienced leadership, the organization can have a long-lasting impact on the way that social media is used by younger generations.
